Swimming pool register

Targeting pool safety messages and inspection requires councils to know where pools are located in the community. Although a number of councils already hold this information, many do not. The Act therefore requires pool owners to self-register their pool, free of charge, on a statewide online register.

From 29 April 2013, pool owners have been required to register (through easy registration steps) their backyard swimming pools in an online register at

Online swimming pool registration is free. If you can't access the online register, your local council will be able to register on your behalf (a fee of up to $10.00 may apply).

The register site also promotes pool safety and pool compliance in response to the challenge of reducing the number of deaths and injuries to children in backyard swimming pools in NSW. The register also provides pool owners with pool safety checklists to help them to self-assess their pool's safety.

Pool owners will be asked to indicate that, to the best of their knowledge, their swimming pool complies with the Standard applicable to their pool.
